이 강종은 질화강입니다.
질화강이란 알루미늄 (Al), 크롬 (Cr),
몰리브덴(Mo)을 함유하며,
질화 처리하여, 표면 경화를 시킨 강을 말합니다.
철강재 표면에 질소 (N) 농도를 높이는 열 화학적 처리를 말하며
질화에 사용되는 매질은 가스, 프라즈마 방법이 있습니다.
Nitrogen (N)은 강 (steel)의 강도 (strength), 경도 (hardness),
기계 가공성 (machinability) 을 높여주지만, 반대로
연성 (Ductile)과 인성 (Toughness) 을
감소 시키는 합금 원소입니다.
질화강에 Al, Cr, Ti, V, Mo를 합금 시키는 이유는
이들 원소가 경화를 돕는 원소이기 때문입니다.
질소 (Nitrogen) 를 강재 표면에 침입, 확산 시킨
질화 처리된 강은 HV 800~1000 수준이며
내열성, 내마모성, 내식성, 고온 내피로성,
고온 강도를 유지하는 강재가 됩니다.

※ Ductility (연성 : 延性)
The property of metals that enables them to be
mechanically deformed when cold, without fracture.
In steel, ductility is usually measured by elongation
and reduction of area is determined in a tensile test.
※ Toughness (인성 : 靭性)
The degree of difficulty in occurring impact breaking
because of the material’s toughness.
※ Nitriding (질화 처리 : 窒化處理)
It is a heat treatment process for surface hardening.
Nitriding is an accumulation of nitrogen in the tool surface by
diffusion at a process temperature between 430~630℃.
When it is done with a secondary hardened tool steel below 500℃,
there will be no distortion on the nitriding pieces.
Today we use gas nitriding, salt bath nitriding, plasma nitriding.
Recently plasma nitriding has become very popular because it is
possible to reduce the nitriding temperature to a lower level
and this process has the best environmental assessment.
Nitriding a tool is a good possibility of increasing the wear
resistance of the surface still having a tough core.
